Woman of the Week - Lana Del Rey

Alright now this is one girl who is quickly making a name for herself in the music industry; the one and only Lana Del Rey. Her first single 'video games' (which i have a link for below) have already surpassed 14 million views on youtube.

Lana has described herself as a "gangsta Nancy Sinatra" which is a great thing in my opinion. Keep an eye out for her because she's a star on the rise but you don't want all those damn hipsters telling you that "i knew her before she was huge" So listen and enjoy.

oh and did i forget to mention that she's gorgeous...in a rosie the riveter kinda way.

Hope you enjoyed a great song and beautiful woman!

As always don't forget to subscribe, comment, and like!!!

Suits - Part 1

Ok so one of the mainstays of this blog will of course be on suits...to be a well dressed man you need a suit. Later this week I'll post a list of things you need to know when buying a suit, but for today we'll just stick to things you should do/know when throwing on a suit you already own.

It doesn't matter whether your wearing your suit to work everyday, to a wedding, or just for a  night out; there are a few things you should keep in mind to stay looking your best. so here are a few tips to help you along your way:

1. Make sure it fits...properly. This is where having a good tailor you trust comes into play. Your suit should not look like a sack you've thrown over yourself. It should be fitted to your body with a minimal break on your leg. If your unsure about how well your suit fits then stop reading and go see your tailor now. I'm serious, stop reading and get it fitted.

2. Accessories. A lot of guys never think of adding a little flair to their suits but it can make a world of difference and make a cheap suit instantly look far more expensive. All you have to do is anchor your suit with a few different pieces to add some style to the outfit. A few ideas are;

  • Cuff links; this obviously presupposes that your wearing a french cuffed shirt. I suggest owning at least one white french cuff shirt as it adds a level of sophistication that a regular oxford shirt just can't match. As for the cuff link itself a plain silver one is always a safe bet.
  • Tie Bar; There isn't much to say about a tie bar other than keep it simple with a nice thin silver one. Its a nice compliment to your suit and also holds a functional purpose of just keeping your tie out of your way and ensuring it doesn't accidentally get dipped into your morning coffee...
  • Pocket Square; There are endless possibilities when your adding a pocket square to your suit, they are elegant and are a great way of showing off some style in your everyday wear. To start with I'd suggest just getting a plain white one because you wont have to worry about matching it with anything else your wearing. Don't worry about puffing it out of your pocket in any elegant way, just go for a straight line (think Don Draper in Mad Men) or check out this picture below

3. Throw in a bit of color. You don't always have to stick with a white shirt for your suit. Buy some shirts with a light color (blue, pink, etc) and pair them with a simple tie. Its an inexpensive and effortless way to change things up with your suit, especially if your going to be wearing that suit everyday.

A motivational video - Will Smith

Here's one of my favourite videos on youtube, its an interview that Will Smith did on the Tavis Smiley show. Personally I find it about as inspiring as you can get, Will Smith stands as a testament of what the right attitude and strong dedication can do you for you...irregardless of your chosen profession.

Watch the video and let me know what you think.

10 Things Every Man Needs

Ok so i've put together a list of 10 things i think every man should have. They're neither hard to get nor expensive but for some reason a lot of people don't have them. So i decided to make your lives easier and post them all in one spot. All you have to do is make a mental checklist to see what your missing...and if you are missing something, please go get it!

So here we go:

1 A Good Suit. Every man needs at least one suit suitable for births, deaths, and weddings. Nothing flashy with this one; just plain black or navy. With this being said you will also need a pair of black leather shoes and a nice white shirt to accompany the suit.

2. A Good Barber/ Hair Dresser. It doesen't matter if your hair is long or buzzed right down. You need to make sure that you keep it neat and well groomed. No one likes you if your looking sloppy.

3. A Tailor You Trust. A good tailor can help you with everything from alterations to your suit to bringing in the legs of your jeans. I don't care if your an investment banker or a plumber; everyman needs to have a tailor (your wife or mother who knows how to sew dosen't count)

4. A Gym Membership. This is just common sense. It dosen't matter what you do for a living, you will always have time to work out and stay in shape. If a gym isn't your thing then go play sports, life weights at home. Whatever you like, just stay healthy and stay in shape. The benefits far outweigh the cost in this one.

5. A Nice Watch. The reason that a good watch is important is two-fold. First of all punctuality never hurt anyone. But more importantly investing in a good watch is a great way to show off a bit of flair with any outfit while also making a mediocre outfit seem far more expensive and polished. The way i look at it is this; its cheaper to buy a good watch to pull together an outfit then to just buy an expensive suit.

6. Casual Boots. And no; i don't mean big clunky winter boots or the army boots you bought at a surplus store. I mean a nice pair of boots then you can throw on with a pair of jeans and wear out on the weekend. You won't be able to wear your Nike High Tops forever but a good pair of boots never goes out of style. When it comes to boots the colour is important, black tends to seem kind of militant so i would go for a brown desert boot. (check out Clark's desert boots, their well priced and will last you forever)

7. Stocked Tool Box. I shouldn't have to explain this one. Just have a tool box in case stuff breaks around the house...buy one even if you don't know how to use the tool's in it. end of story.

8. Passport. Its just something thats always important to have because you never know what will happen. You don't want to limit yourself by not owning one. It takes far less time to plan that trip to Europe then to wait for your passport to come in the mail. So don't miss any trips because you were to lazy to get your photo taken.

9. A Cookbook. Let's be honest here. Most of you probobly can't do anything other than barbecue and cook Kraft Dinner. Not that there's anything wrong with that but if your having your lady or anyone worth impressing over you better learn some new recipes...and fast. The easiest way to do that is to just have a cookbook you can open up. I would however try experimenting with some of the recipe's first. Just in case.

10. A Good Group Of Guy Friends. Whether you call them your bro's your homies...whatever. Have them because they'll always know when to take you out for a beer to get over a hard day at work, or to the strip club after a bad breakup. Guy's don't really need to bitch about their feelings because we have our guy friends  who just get it...without having to be all mushy about it.

So i hope this helps and if you think i missed anything on my list please let me know in the comment box!

Cheers,
